How Does IVF Treatment Process Work?
The IVF application process may differ from patient to patient. However, treatment usually starts with hormone drugs given externally. The aim of hormone therapy is to ensure egg development and to prevent premature ovulation. During drug use, ultrasound and blood tests are performed at regular intervals to monitor egg development. The eggs that reach maturity are collected by needle aspiration method and fertilized with sperm taken from the male in the laboratory environment. Egg collection can be done under local anesthesia or sedation. Fertilization can be conventionally done by laying sperm and eggs side by side or by micro injection. If fertilization is performed by micro injection method instead of classical IVF, each sperm is injected into a single egg under high magnification microscope. After fertilization, eggs are left to develop in the laboratory for 2 to 6 days. During this time, the best embryos that develop are selected and placed in the uterus. The number of embryos to be transferred to the uterus is very effective in the risk of multiple pregnancy and the chance of pregnancy. Therefore, after the embryo quality is determined, the decision on the number of embryos is made with the prospective parents.
What are the Factors Affecting Success in IVF?
The factors affecting the success in IVF can be from both the applied health center and the couple who want to have a child. The most effective factors affecting the success of IVF can be listed as follows;
• Age of the expectant mother: As the age of the expectant mother increases, the success rate decreases.
• Weight: Excess weight negatively affects fertility.
• Smoking: Smoking is a negative factor for both expectant mothers and fathers. While it negatively affects the fertility of the expectant mother and the health of the baby during pregnancy, it also causes the sperm count of the future father to decrease.
Stress
Infections
Hormonal disorders
Egg reserves
Sperm factor
What is the Success Rate in IVF?
Although the IVF success rate varies from country to country, the worldwide success rate is 60%. IVF application is the name given to the process of monitoring the ovulation process of the expectant mother, taking her egg from her ovaries and fertilization with sperm in the laboratory environment. For this reason, the success of the expectant mother is influenced by the age, weight, health status, smoking or not. Failing after the first attempt does not mean that it will fail in the next attempt. It is also possible to be successful after a few tries. In vitro fertilization may fail even in couples with no health problems, after which successful results can be obtained.
